Ol' Yeller Genestealers

Greetings fellow humans! Once again I'm back in the painting saddle. This time it's more genestealers. I used contrast paints once again and knocked these out in a couple of hours. They are of an experimental colour scheme as I needed to be able to differentiate between two purestrain units. Having a traditional purple and blue, I went for desert camo genestealers. Not exactly camo, just sandy yellow. If fluff is necessary, the stealers that come out yellow are a product of heavy sulfur deposits in the mines they skulk around in. A filter has been applied and an unpainted collection of scenery was plonked down for aesthetic appeal.

Raarrrgh!

Next step is to paint the buildings!

So I'm not entirely convinced with the colour scheme but I'm fupped if I'll redo them. Expect to see them (in an unpainted, then painted guise) on the battlefield soon!

Malarkey On Lernin Kerv

Farseer Gelladrill had been observing the conflict on Lernin Kerv for several day night cycles and it was becoming clear that the Tyranids were in the ascendancy. That the humans on this benighted planet would soon be reduced to a biological slime if left unaided was of no consequence. What was of great import was the direction the Tyranids would take after wards. The runes foretold that if left to prevail, then the invaders would eventually happen upon an Aeldari colony which could ultimately lead to the deaths of many thousands of her people. A surgical strike on what appeared to be a large cluster of node beasts might provide respite for the remaining Mon-Keigh and buy enough time for the rapidly approaching Imperial fleet to turn the tide. What she hadn't planned on was the arrival of Asurmen on the eve of the attack. His calm confidence was distracting as was his "sage" advice. Asurmen had previously fought on the side of Ulthwe but this time there seemed to be a subtle desire to lead. As long as the battle plan was adhered to the Tyranids would be defeated.

Lots of nicely painted 'nids, ready to gobble up tasty, tasty Aeldari.

A Third Battle of Lernin Kerv

Back in the dawn of recorded 40K time I played a couple of games with Stuart using my Astra Militarum vs his Tyranids the First Battle Of Lernin Kerv and the Second Battle of Lernin Kerv. Hive Fleet Cthuga were spewing all manner of Tyranid organisms all over the place (as they do) and the defenders were having a bit of a time of it. Enter the Aeldari of Craftworld Ulthwe. The Seer council decided that allowing the Tyranids plunder Lernin Kerv did not suit their mysterious plans so a strike force was dispatched to attack a large cluster of Tyranid Synapse beasts to hinder the invaders and buy the Mon-Keigh time as a relief force was making it's was to the war torn planet. So that's the background for a rather fun game we played.

Painting by Witchcraft

Monopose models are not now the enemy!

Greetings. Today I am here to talk about Witchcraft, or to be more accurate, Citadel contrast paints. as an experiment I cought five or six colours that I thought would be useful, namely, Magus Purple, Ultramarine Blue, Skeleton Horde, Militarum Green and Snakebite Leather. I have also bought the contrast skin tone whose name escapes me at present but as I haven't used it yet isn't important. What is important is the Purestrain Genestealers I painted in probably 2 hours. I'm sure many people would do them in half that time but I'm a slow painter. The most exciting thing for me is the great results you can get in an acceptably achievable time. Makes me think I can actually finish my armies! Of course they're not golden demon standard, but I've never been within an asses roar of that anyhow.

Near the back on the right is a previously painted Purestrain. Took me four times as long and looks half as good!

So in keeping with the speed of the painting I will hit publish forthwith regardless of any little errors. Hopefully these miraculous little paints will  mean many more semi well painted models hitting blog posts and batreps in the near future!

Deathworld Flora and Fauna Part 3 - The Catachan Brainleaf

Another Gribbly!

So here is part three of my irregular series where I make models that hark back to 1992 when I first discovered the Rogue Trader rulebook. Back then modelling supplies and tools were in short supply as all I had was cardboard and a damp cellar. So after the semi-infamous splats of craters incident, I pretty much ceased making terrain. Fast forward to White Dwarf 242 when an article was created to instruct unwashed gamers on how to create these wondrous items.

The White Dwarf article.

The Horror of Mental Onslaught and the Perils of Overextending Your Thrust

Once upon an imaginary time two armies of aliens set about destroying each other. The resulting carnage was observed by Imperial surveillance servitors and the results were broadcast to the masses to emphasize the superiority of humanity. The resulting document has since made it's way into the Tactica Imperia pamphlet entitled 'how to kill an alien'.

Death From Above, Or Some Other Angle!

Greets! Just a quick post to show off my Ulthwe Windriders. I have been using them in quite a few battle reports in semi painted semi glued states. They have been in this sorry state for 10 or more years but I have finally gotten my paint on and finished them. When I first constructed them I wanted to use them as pirates hence their completely illegal meltagun and flamer. But since my newfound 40K obsession I finally got round to finishing them.

The central figure is banking ever so slightly. Probably making whooshing sound as well.

Windriders have very few options; either with twin shuriken catapults or a shuriken cannon. Hopefully the unsettling plethora of new rules emerging from the Space Marine codex will give these fellers some also over the top  weaponry like mini nukes or syphilis cannons.
Group shot.
Hopefully in the near future they will be instrumental in the Aeldari resurgence whereby they win the war against Chaos, the Imperium and all the other enemies of  my space elfs. So far their recent exploits have sent tiny discs of sharpened plastic into Orks, Tyranids, Tau and Space Marines, all wearing just a black undercoat. Now they have highlighted weapons and helmets the sky's the limit. Possibly.

The Dy Celiac IV Eradication

Brother Captain Prophylactic's mood was dark. Following an embarrassing defeat a moon cycle ago his forces had been forced to return to their fortress while rebels and insurgents openly mocked the Astartes with graffiti and pamphlets ridiculing their prowess. Civil disobedience had reached critical levels and now a large group of rebels were marching on the Blood Angel fortress. It was hard to tell exact numbers but Brother Sergeant Buttafucco estimated over 200,000. This was possibly incorrect as ever since Buttafucco had been struck by a xenos mind ray during the Gorgonzolan rebellion, his mental acuity had been in question. All Astarte forces were prepared for combat. As the fortress automated gun defense systems activated the rebels marched on regardless heedless to their own casualties (which were huge). As the commander looked on through the vid screens the fortress was rocked by an enormous explosion. The vox came alive with status reports when one voice took precedence, it was Brother Cuppola from the lower courtyard. "Be advised brothers, hostiles in the courtyard assistance imperative!".
Brother Captain Prophylactic then gave the order "Brothers, eradication protocols, lower courtyard, converge and destroy!".
