Seasons greetings. As we close in on 2023 I try to finish stuff to make my 2022 seem less worthless hobbywise. As a result here are some old metal models from the previous millennium. To give a bit of background on the following items, back in the mid nineties a Necromunda gang you could play were Spyrers or Spyre Hunters. Basically the wealthy noble houses sent their offspring down to kill as many worthless proles as they could, survive with only their wits and billions of credits worth of advanced weaponry and armour (which may or may not be manufactured by the T'au) and then return up to the Spyre to take their place in the family business. They were a very good gang but I never had them painted up during my time as a Necromunda player. Now I have to try to shoehorn them into a current 40K army.....
Jakara
First up are two Jakara. Armed with a mirror shield and monomolecular sword they were nasty spindly legged chicks who were not nice to underhivers. With the new Astra Militarum codex due out soon, I think they can see some table time as sergeants for infantry squads armed with power swords and some sort of non standard issue pistol. This is why they got some contrast paints Militarum Green and Creed Camo applied.

I was never a big fan of the Jakara as I thought they were sub par models but after slapping pigment on them I can see a bit of Oldhammer charm in them. |
|
The legs are very spindly though. |
Malcadon
One of the worst (for other players) Spyre Hunters was the Malcadon. Shooting webs a bit like spiderman and claws to rip the unwary apart they were a terror in the nineties. Now this guy will probably be some sort of cultist or a 40K superhero or villain.
|
The Malcadons seemed to me to be the Count Draculas of the underhive. |
Orrus
My favourite Spyrers were the Orrus, heavily armoured close combat specialist that punched pretty hard in a game of shooting. Again contrast paints were used to allow them to act as NCOs for my Astra Militarum as powerfist toting dudes.
|
This guy makes me think of Captain America with pychosis. |
|
I think I went a bit mad with all the green on this one. |
Yeld
Winged long range chavs that flitted around the underhive like grimdark Batmen that were more likely to adorn body parts on their suit rather than help redeem criminals. Nice models that can glide around battlefields like cheap Swooping Hawk knock offs.
|
The sci-fi Dark Knight rises. |
|
This guy is painted off white so he can pretend to be a medic in a command squad. |
So that's it for this update. If I get my finger out I may add some more models for 2022, but I wouldn't hold your breath. 😔 Thanks for reading and have a good pre-Christmas.
